Parable of the Sower: A Graphic Novel Adaptation

"Parable of the Sower" is a seminal dystopian science fiction novel originally written by acclaimed author Octavia E. Butler and first published in 1993. It is the opening installment in her two-book Earthseed series (followed by Parable of the Talents in 1998). The 2020 graphic novel adaptation, published by Abrams ComicArts, faithfully brings Butler's story to a visual medium. It was adapted (scripted) by Damian Duffy, illustrated by John Jennings, with a foreword by Nalo Hopkinson. This edition preserves the novel's prose-driven journal entries while leveraging Jennings' dynamic, shadowy artwork—characterized by bold lines, stark contrasts, and a gritty, horror-infused aesthetic—to amplify its apocalyptic intensity.
